Pure Water is Medicine

Pure water is the world’s first and foremost medicine.

Water is one of the cornerstones of wellbeing; but often one of the most neglected. Your body needs water for almost all of the functions it performs like:

  • detoxification - cleansing waste from cells,

  • maintaining blood pressure,

  • lubricating joints,

  • regulating electrolyte balance,

  • regulating temperature

  • regulating metabolism, etc.

Without adequate hydration you may feel:

  • fatigue,

  • brain fog,

  • headaches, joint aches, muscle aches, back ache,

  • hungry,

  • irritable or depressed.

Mild dehydration can contribute to constipation, UTIs, kidney stones and increased heart beat. If you drink when you are thirsty you are already dehydrated. Optimal hydration can lower the chance of stroke, help manage diabetes and blood pressure, clear skin and even reduce risk of some types of cancer.

Are you drinking enough water each day?

The easiest way to know is to check the colour of your urine. Your early morning pee may be quite dark, because you are dehydrated from not drinking overnight. This is your prompt to drink 2 glasses of water first thing in the morning. A herbal tea in the sunshine is a lovely ritual to start your day.

Ideally during the day urine should be a very pale yellow, straw-like colour.

Adults should aim to drink 30 ml per kg of bodyweight. So a 70kg adult should drink 2.1 litres each day, more if active.

When you add hydration to your day, you start to feel the difference. It's easy to say to drink more; but here's some hints to help you make this a habit:

1. Drink 2 glasses of water first thing in the morning. Your body is dehydrated from hours without water. Add some lemon for a little extra zing!

2. Get a water filter on your tap, so that it tastes good and is healthier for you.

3. Carry a water bottle - make sure it's glass or stainless to avoid toxins in plastic.

4. Pop a glass in the bathroom and have a glass each time you wash your hands.

5. Make it tasty by having a herbal tea, or adding fruit or herbs to a jug of water.

Take the water challenge: drink 2 litres of water over 24 hours. (Herbal teas count. Wine and coffee do not as they are diuretics,
i.e. make you pee more and lose water.)

Water is the healthiest hydrator; however diluted juice, tea, and water in foods like: cucumber, melons, berries, lettuce etc, can supplement water intake.

Some people may avoid drinking water because they have to go to the loo all the time, or during the night. Try taking a couple of crystals of Celtic salt (which contains over 80 minerals) and dissolving in the mouth, before drinking a glass of water. This will help to draw water into the cells so your cells are hydrated, rather than the water flushing through. Celtic salt contains over 80 minerals and trace elements, making it much healthier than table salt which is mostly sodium chloride.

Dr Masaru Emoto, a Japanese scientist did water experiments that revealed the amazing nature of water and that it has an energy capable of more than we imagine. He demonstrated that water is impacted by environment, words, thoughts and emotions, by exposing water in glasses to loving intent or to negative, unpleasant intent, and to music, then freezing it and examining the ice crystals under high speed microscopic photography.

Classical music produced well-shaped crystals; while heavy music produced misshapen irregular crystals.  He taped positive and negative words on the jars of water, showing that exposing water to loving intent and words like “love” and “gratitude” resulted in the structure of water forming beautiful crystals. However the reverse is true that exposing water to negative, unpleasant intent disfigures the crystal structure of the water.

Although we know that names can hurt us emotionally, now we can see the physical effects of words, thoughts and music on the state of the water molecules in our bodies. This has huge implications for our health, as humans are composed of 60-70% water. Words are very likely to effect the water that composes our bodies, cells, tissues and organs.

Dr Emoto's work affirms the effectiveness of love, gratitude and prayer, and makes us stop and think twice about our thoughts, words and intentions because they produce an energy that can affect wellbeing for good or bad. It also reminds us to speak positive and inspirational words to our children, others, and ourselves.
